Preparation for the 4th edition of the 20km Bugesera Race is in high gear.
They expect the run to offer a different experience for participants and spectators alike.
Organized by Serge Gasore Foundation named the race “Race to Restore” in the bid to fight and sensitize youth about the use of illicit drugs, early teenage pregnancies, corruption and to fight Genocide Ideology in the Eastern Province.
The organizers believe the race will play a vital role to connect and unite the youth in huge numbers to discuss causes that make a difference in life and also look at challenges faced.
The previous editions of the event attracted an avid number of participants, last year the number was over 2000 on top of 3,000 spectators. This year, they expect the number to raise.
The race will take place on Sunday, 12th May, with participants including male and female competing in the 20km, 8km, and 3km on top of a 40km cycling competition.
According to the route map, participants will set off from Hotel Lapalisse Nyamata, then pass through Nyamata town before crossing Bugesera stadium which is already under construction.
Racegoers will proceed through the same route several times depending on the category of race registered for, as thousands of fans cheer-on.
In addition, the event will incorporate a cycling competition for children with physical disability.
Organizers will brief runners about respective routes depending on a category to cover, they said.
Organizers requested that those interested to part take will have to pay at least Rwf 500 for a running kit.
The proceeds will be used to help one needy person from Bugesera district.
Over 36 best participants are expected to receive prizes including sharing a cash price of Rwf 2.6m, on top of winning brand new bikes, mobile phones to mention but a few.
