A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the National Table Tennis Federation (RTTF) and the National Paralympics Committee (NPC) to promote the sport among people with physical limitation and impairment in Rwanda.
The signing of the MoU took place at the NPC-Rwanda indoor ground Amahoro stadium on June 22, 2019.
John Bosco Birungi the President of RTTF recognized the importance of MoU saying that the formal agreement to partner with NPC had been discussed not so long ago and now it has been put in action.
“The partnership is about support and promoting table tennis in Rwanda without isolating and forgetting persons with impairment since they’re also entitled to enjoyment together with non-disabled people,” he noted.
He added that, Para Table Tennis is an Olympic sport; which is played and promoted by persons with impairment since they are also people like others who are supposed to play the game.
By signing the MoU, RTTF affirmed their commitment to the Olympic Charter and contribution to the Olympic Movement’s goals of “building a peaceful and better world by educating the impaired through the sport practiced in accordance with Olympism and its value.
The president of NPC Jean Baptiste Murema expressed his gratitude saying that it is a positive partnership they have welcomed wholeheartedly as the federation in charge of “Para-Sport” in Rwanda.
He added that for the federation having opened its gates is to have them work together which will help many players with disabilities to find themselves in table tennis and promised that they will collaborate so that the sport or game is developed.
NPC Rwanda in collaboration with RTTF will be using the NPC stadium for training and during competitions, MoU also includes partnership in capacity training workshops for players and other related events.
