The opening day of the UNIMONI Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) premier league started on Sunday with two very entertaining games at Gahanga cricket stadium and Kicukiro oval in division 2.
At Gahanga cricket stadium Tamil lions took on the youthful Titans, while in the second game at Kicukiro at IPRC- Vikings Cricket Club beat Kutchi Tigers.
Tamil won the toss and decided to Bat first getting to a horrible start with the first ball from Jean Michel Iradukunda claiming the wicket of Siva Kumar who was caught behind by the wicket keeper Ndikubwina didier
Titans bowled well upfront, had Tamil lions in trouble at 80 runs for 6 wickets by the 20th over thanks to a very economical spell by 15 year old Parfait Mugisha who returned figures of 2 wickets for 18 runs.
Still Tamil lions took the game away from Titans in the last two wicket partnerships that got the score from 100 for 8 to 230 all out in 48.1 overs thanks to the cool head of Gopal Ganatra who came in at number five and scored 109 runs off 139 balls in the last wicket to fall.
Elsewhere at Kicukiro cricket oval Pankaj Vekaria scored a brilliant century of 115runs off 83 balls to take Kutchi tigers to a score of 227 runs
Vikings bowled well at the front with Sathish Krishna claiming 5 wickets for 32 runs in 8 overs.
Pankaj Vekeria returned back to haunt the the Vikings batsmen with the ball claiming 3 wickets for 27 runs and was ably supported by Eric Niyomugabo who bowled 10 overs and took 3 wickets for 51 runs.
Vikings started the chase well with Vicky Prajapat and Shanthamu Kothari taking the game to the Kutchi Tigers bowlers with the first wicket of Kothari falling in 14th over after he scored 24 runs.
Vicky continued playing his shorts and scored 85 runs off 100 balls which was not enough to win the game for his team and Vikings fell short of 26 runs.
