Green Hill Academy was crowned the champions of the 2018 Inter-School Swimming held on Saturday at Green Hills Gymnasium.
Organized by the National Swimming Federation, over 90 schools children attended the 5th edition of the competition aimed to detect talent at the grassroots from 14 different schools namely, Ecole Belge, Ecole Francaise, Riviera High School, ISKL, KICS, , Earth School, ACORNS, Well Spring Academy, Little Germs, Excella, Kigali Parents, Brook Stead and Kigali Christian School.
The host Green Hills became this year’s over role champions walking away with the trophy after clinching the mixed relay 4x25m made up of two girls and two boys from same school regardless of age category.
Ecole Belge School finished second and Kigali International Community School was named third.
Haeger Nathalie from Green Hills finished as the best in the freestyle event with a time of 34’46 beating Shema Anabella from APE Rugunga in second position with two micro-seconds.
Gabbers Tamarana from Ecole Belge finished third with a time of 35’36 seconds.
In the boy’s 200 category, Shafi Mparerwa from Kigali International School won gold after clocking 35’08 seconds in the breaststroke event, Karl Schrah from Kigali International Community School clocked a time of 35:08 in the 50m while Cedric Niyibizi (36’12) from Ecole Primaire Rwimbogo was third.
Chris Noah Mana from Ecole des Amies won the 200 free style boys event with a time of 2’48’36, Nathalie once again scooped another medal in the girls event after finishing as the best with a time of 3’01’26.
Isaie Kwizera the swimming body technical director praised the participants for turning out in huge numbers and promised that the federation will continue help swimmers to up their skills through the RSF development program.
The next event dubbed ‘Open Water Swimming’ competition will happen on December 15 2018, in Rubavu-Gisenyi.
