Rwanda National Police has today arrested four people in Karongi district over the theft of several items stolen from three Ukrainian tourists who were traveling from Karongi to Rutsiro district.
But the items were recovered upon the arrest of the anonymous thieves. The recovered items include 3 passports, $4200, €495 and GB Pounds 100 which were all returned to the tourists.
Police in Nyarugenge also arrested two people during patrol operations against theft of electronics.
The two suspects were arrested after police identified them to be involved in the theft of electronics in Kimisagara Sector, Nyarugenge district.
Fils Ntwarumukiza, 23 years old, and Rukundo Mustafa, 28 years old, were arrested in the night of Sunday in Kimisagara Cell.
Several expensive handsets, television flat screens stolen from different people and shops in Kigali, were returned by the suspects.
The two are detained at Kimisagara Police station as investigations are expected to commence.
During the same nightly operations, community patrol staff arrested two youths Jean Nepomscene Niwenshuti and another suspect only identified as Mugenzi carrying bags containing telecom transmitter batteries stolen from mobile telecommunication musts in the same sector in Nyarugenge district.
Telecom batteries cost Rwf1million which is attracting theft.
