Local and international NGOs operating in Rwanda will showcase their work to the public and their contribution to the social-economic development of the country in a 2-days expo slated for March in 1st-2nd, 2018.
Recognizing the great role NGOs play in enhancing national transformation through capacity development and resource mobilization, it only important that unique opportunities for showcase their activities, exchange experiences, interaction with beneficiaries and dialogue with funders as well as policy makers- be created to inspire sustainable growth.
“This strategic engagement is one of the mechanisms we hope will consolidate the existing good understanding between the NGOs, Civil Society Organizations and government on matters of governance and development that are of mutual concern” Said the President of Rwanda Civil society Platform, Sekanyange Jean Leonard.
The NGO Expo and Conference is an opportunity for NGOs to show the public what they do. Often the public is not informed about the work of NGOs and impact it has on society,” Said Ignatius Kabagambe, The CEO, Apex Media and Promotions. This therefore will be a good platform for the organizations to be accountable to the public by highlighting their activities. We encourage as many as NGOs possible to register,” He added.
Currently, about 30 NGOs have registered. The contribution to showcase for one NGO is Rwf 350,000 which is paid cash, or within the deadline of February 20, 2018.
For one extra person sent by an NGO, she/he will pay Rwf 20,000 as an additional contribution to access the training and attend the conference; but an NGO that need to attend only the conference and training without showcasing will pay Rwf 50,000.
The NGO Expo and conference 2018, the first of what shall be an annual activity, is exactly intended to achieve the above goal. This is in addition to providing another opportunity of highlighting the positive impact their interventions have had on the Rwandan communities.
On the sidelines of the Expo, will also feature thematic workshops tailored to address NGO priority topics. These have been organized for the benefit of NGO staff on the first day.
On Day Two, an all-day high level conference of over 500 participants with the theme: “Two decades of Humanitarian action in Rwanda. Fostering NGO collaboration and partnership that work”, and Sub-themes that will draw expert discussions on achievements, challenges and lessons learnt along the two decades of humanitarian action in rebuilding Rwanda shall take place.
“The NGO Expo and conference provides a unique opportunity for different Civil Society stakeholders from different sectors to meet and dialogue on the pertinent issues affecting their operations and performance to further map the way forward together,” Papa Diouf, The Chairman of the network of international NGOs(NINGO) operating in Rwanda commented.
