FIFA President Gianni Infantino has hailed Rwanda and the Rwandan Football Federation for the commendable developments achieved in the last two decades.
“I am happy to be here in Kigali in Rwanda, in this beautiful country and very happy to be back in the FIFA capacity. Cooperation with Ferwafa is excellent. And the football development projects are excellent.”
The FIFA President who has been on a four African country tour urged Ferwafa to make sure that projects that are intended to develop Rwandan football to be well planned, monitored and implemented to avoid corrupt and shoddy malpractices.
But in the first days of the construction of the Ferwafa Hotel funded $8m by FIFA, it was reported and court presided over hearing related to corrupt scandals involving embezzlement of the millions of dollars by some of the federation’s leaders.
“Everything is looked at to make sure that the new projects are planned, monitored and implemented according to plan and to all details to assure that nothing very much strange should happen.”
Rwanda like other countries will, however, remain beneficiary to FIFA funding which, the Association’s president says have been increased to four times the previous one.
He urged Ferwafa to under every straight FIFA conditions to comply with all the comprised regulations in implementing projects funded by the Federation of International Football Association.
“The federation has to prove that the work is done in the most appropriate way and everything commences according to plan. The hotel should be completed and not built half way and shoddy. I am here in Rwanda in order to set the foundation for the hotel project and show engagement with football development community in the country.”
He noted that he was contented to meet the Rwandan President Paul Kagame with whom he spoke about football and the future of football in the country.
“Rwanda has the capacity to organize football events and the developments are excellent and the dreams and ambitions of the country can be realized.”
Rwanda will in October this year host a FIFA executive committee meeting, a football achievement still in plans.
The FIFA President lauded the Rwandan national league saying there is improvement in the quality of players and technic of the games.
“The quality of players is impressing and also the fans and to feel and see their motion and passion at the matches. Everyone is trying to play and so the quality for me has been excellent and technically there is talent and need for additional tact towards the world cup.”
He urged Rwandan players to keep up their on-pitch possession but also take time to watch teams playing in Europe and other countries national leagues.
The FIFA leader was also in Kigali to rectify issues related to communication between the Rwandan football federation and the International federation for the game’s association.
